Polaris Health — clinical operations workspace
HIPAA-compliant clinical dashboard for hospital operations teams managing patient flow and resource allocation.
- Clinical workflow research (3 hospitals)
- Information architecture
- Compliance-first engineering (HIPAA / SOC 2)
- React + GraphQL build
- Audit logging + observability
What they needed to solve.
Clinical coordinators were working across six disconnected tools — bed management, lab orders, staff scheduling, transport, discharge, and patient flow. Handoffs were manual. Errors were frequent. Patient time-to-bed was 4× the regional benchmark.
How we approached it.
A single consolidated workspace built in React with role-based views for nurses, coordinators, and administrators. HIPAA-compliant from the ground up with full audit logging, field-level encryption for PHI, and SOC 2 alignment built into the deploy pipeline.
Design decisions.
- AaInter — UI
- AaJetBrains Mono — IDs & vitals
- AaIBM Plex Sans — patient cards
Single-screen-no-scroll design for bed maps. Status colours match ED standard nomenclature. WCAG 2.2 AAA in clinical contexts.
- No-scroll bed map view for full ward visibility
- Colour codes match existing ED triage standard
- Audit log surfaces in-context, not buried in admin
What changed.
6 disconnected tools, paper handoffs, no audit trail, no real-time bed visibility, frequent miscommunication.
One unified workspace, real-time bed map, full audit log, role-based clinical views.
